Early morning ride to set up the parade – July 4th Bike Ride
I left home at 6:43 AM so that I could get back in time for the Kingwood 4th of July Parade. A benefit was the temperature had not reached the 90’s yet and in fact was a nice 77 degrees at the start and 81 at the finish. The bad side was the humidity was higher than the temperature. Whenever I looked down while I was riding the sweat would pour off of my chin. When I stopped in Huffman to refill my water bottle I spent most of my time mopping water from my arms and face. I got back home at 8:40 AM so I had to hustle to get cleaned up in time for the 10 AM parade start.I saw two other bikers on FM1960 over Lake Houston.
This picture is the official start of the parade. The picture does not include the cheers and clapping as the color guard marched by.
The gallery further down has a sampling of pictures from the parade.
Today’s 28.32 mile ride put me at the 105.51 mile mark for the month. My average speed was 15.3 mph and a max speed of 23.1 mph. Average cadence was 79.2 RPM. Year to date mileage is 2944.60. Last night I entered the mileage from 2006 to 2008 into SportTracks. I scanned my 2006-2008 paper cycling logs as well. This was something I thought about for awhile and finally did. The Brother scanner did it easily. I did cheat somewhat in that I just entered the monthly total miles rather than the daily details.

The pictures of the parade can be enlarged by selecting the picture list link. The turnout was huge. The popular float was the one with the power washer spraying the crowd.
