It is another glorious day in the Texas Drought of 2011 – July 2nd Bike Ride
I wanted to get an early start on today’s ride and the 7:15AM time was a reason attempt. The 77 degrees at the start was greatly appreciated since the high today is supposed to be 99. It is another glorious day in the Texas Drought of 2011 so rain was no where to be seen but the humidity level encouraged the sweat to flow freely which it did. My first stop was devoted to cleaning my glasses and mopping up my bandana to lessen the perspiration from heading to my glasses. Blue skies and a calm wind set the scene for what I picture as the perfect Texas day.
Only one brief dog sprint occurred at the 40 mile point and the dog did not seem to have his heart in it giving up after a few yards. At the first Valero rest stop at FM1485 and FM3083 while I was mopping up the sweat and refilling my water bottle there was a group of over a dozen or so of other bikers arriving at the Shell station. They did not stay long and headed north on FM3083 while I went south on Old Houston Road. Later on when I was in Kingwood I met a tandem with a man and woman. It is rare to see a tandem away from an organized ride.
I rode 51.44 miles which is a good start for July. I was prepared for a low average speed but ended up at 15.3 mph with a max speed of 23.0 mph. Average cadence was 79.5 RPM. The year to date miles are now 2890.53.
