If I didn’t know better I would think I was riding in… – June 2nd Bike Ride
If I didn’t know better I would think I was riding in late July or August. Texas heat was on the scene for today’s ride. When I left on my ride the temperature at Houston Intercontinental Airport was 99 degrees with 30% humidity. At my house it was 97 degrees and 29% humidity. To add to these temperatures there was almost no breeze at all with the wind a slow 7 mph. I have read about other parts of Texas hitting 100+ degrees already this year so it could be HOT summer. It is weather like this when I appreciate the moisture wicking properties of bike wear.
At the end of the ride the temperature had dropped only about 6 degrees at home and the humidity was about the same.
I got a little later start than what I was expecting when my boss stopped to talk about my upcoming retirement just when I normally am getting ready to leave work. It was a great conversation and light traffic on the drive home meant I was not as late as I thought I would be. So I rode 24.42 miles rather than my planned 28+ miles. The light breeze let me ride along fast enough to get a 15.1 mph average speed with a max speed of 25.3 mph according to SportTracks. Garmin Connect thinks I only maxed out at 21.9 mph. These two, Garmin Connect and SportTracks, use the same information but get different results. They almost never agree on the total miles. Average cadence increase by 1 rpm on Wednesday to 81 rpm, max cadence was 108 rpm.
There were a couple of other bikers out riding on my route over Lake Houston on FM1960.
With only two days into June my miles are at 52.87 and the year to date miles are 2230.58. Next ride will be Saturday.
