Sweat didn’t stand a chance on this ride – May 28th Bike Ride
Originally I was planning to ride a route of 63+ miles which would include the western portion of FM1314 where I encountered the chip’n seal surface a few weeks ago. Fortunately I had a change of mind and decided to go a shorter route of 51 miles and avoid the section on FM1314. I was hoping that TXDot had resurfaced the chip’n seal in the weeks since my last ride because there were signs at the east end of the section that warned of uneven road surfaces. This usually means they are laying asphalt but not in this case. I ventured on FM1314 headed west for about half a mile and the chip’n seal was still in place. So I will continue to avoid that section of FM1314. I rode 51.25 miles. Average speed was 15.0 mph with a max speed of 21.7 mph. Average cadence was 78.7 rpm. These numbers do not surprise me because there were a couple of times where the wind gusts almost brought me to a standstill when I was heading south on FM1314.
Between the 28 mph wind gusts and a relative low 46% humidity sweat didn’t stand a chance on this ride. Scattered clouds and 92 degrees rounded out the weather which was great for biking. Evidently I was the only person with this opinion since I didn’t see any other bikers. It reminded me a little of Wichita Falls in August.
For a change there were no dog sprints on this ride. I feel like my exercise is not complete without one of those.
The May mileage recap:
- May miles 610.68 (with 2 days of riding left I have the opportunity to hit my goal of 650 to 670.)
- Miles this week so far 140.84
- Year to date miles 2113.35
- Riding time for the year to date 146 hours 59 minutes
