Sometimes I think I would trade some hills – May 25th Bike Ride
The drought continues which is bad for vegetation but great for riding. With the dry comes higher than normal winds which helps to dry out what little moisture we have. This wind was especially strong when I was riding west across Lake Houston on FM1960 where there is no protection from the wind. The wind current really slowed me down this evening even when the traffic was moving in my direction. Sometimes I think I would trade some hills for no wind. The temperature was in the high 80’s when I started and finished. Scattered clouds meant the sunset did not go fast. I met several other bikers including one who was fixing a flat on the bridge over Lake Houston on W. Lake Houston Parkway. I slowed to see if he needed any help but he said he had it under control. A staple had punctured his rear tire.
As the number of riding days gets smaller I am continuing on course to my goal of 650 miles and still could hit the 670 stretch goal. This evening I rode 28.62 miles increasing the May total to 530.66 and the year to date miles to 2033.33. My average speed was 15.1 mph, max speed 20.7 mph and average cadence was 80.4 rpm.
