I had a dog sprint around the 22 mile mark – May 14th Bike Ride
The first 20 miles of today’s ride was a brute due to the stiff headwind of 17 mph or more. I got a late start for a Saturday ride since I did not get home until after 3:00PM from the Houston Area Special Olympics cycling competition at Memorial Park. My goal was to ride at least 42 miles to set up tomorrow’s ride which should get me to 120 or 125 for the week.
The weather for the ride was picture perfect again although there was a hint of coolness in the wind and the expected 52 degrees tonight. The blue sky and 80 degrees at the start were excellent. By the time I finished the temperature was down to 78. We are supposed to have this same weather fro several more days. The humidity was in the 30 – 40% range when I was riding.
I had a dog sprint around the 22 mile mark. This large silver haired dog was determined to stick with even though I was pushing the speed up over 24 mph. Thank goodness this was with a tailwind or the dog may have stayed with me even longer.
My average speed was 15.5 mph which is a lot higher than I expected with the wind in the first 20 miles. This goes to show what a tailwind can do. My maximum speed was 24.1 mph (dog sprint) and average cadence was 81.9 rpm. May miles are at 287.23 and year to date miles are 1789.90.
