I wanted to reach down and squeeze the tire – May 4th Bike Ride
Th weather warmed up some since Monday’s ride and the wind has moderated. The temperature at the ride start was 77 degrees and 71 at the finish. Wind was steady around 13 mph from the southeast. Mostly cloudy skies helped me get to ride 28.11 miles with the daylight lasting until I returned at 8:10 PM. Average speed was a strong 15.5 mph with a maximum speed of 22.0 mph. Average cadence was 79.0 rpm.
I passed three other riders at the 11 to 13 mile marks. I wore a long sleeve jersey expecting the temperature to be cooler as the sun went down. This was a good move.
Around the 23 mile point I thought my front tire was starting to get soft. I wanted to reach down and squeeze the tire whenever I stopped but I resisted the urge and instead rode hard to get home before the tire went flat. When I got home the squeeze confirmed my fear so I will be repairing the tire shortly.
May mileage is up to 73.09 miles and the year to date miles are 1575.76. I expect to ride tomorrow evening with the weather probably being somewhat warmer.
