Goal Reached – October 31st Bike Ride
The goal for October was 600 miles and I was getting close but it took today’s ride to get over the mark. The weather was picture perfect again which is great for bicycling but it also means the month of October recorded no measurable rain. Grass and trees are getting brown. I know it will rain someday and when it does it could be heavy but that is the way rain happens in southeast Texas. The temperature was 87 degrees when I got back from my ride, skies are clear blue and a light 6 mph breeze is what make this a perfect day for a ride.
Evidently other bikers were not out while I was or where I was because I did not see one rider. Being Halloween maybe people have other plans.
Today’s route is one I travel regularly but a few years ago the road through Valley Ranch was not there. Thanks to DR Horton builders there is a nice two lane concrete road that I take that has almost traffic and moves me away from the noise and traffic on the US59 service road. One thing I noticed on our September vacation trip is that not many states put service roads beside major highways and interstate highways. Not too long ago TXDot was considering no longer building service roads along highways but the public outcry change their mind. For bicycle riders this would reduce the access they have if the service roads were to disappear.
Next week I will try to gather miles for November since the daylight will become scarce once daylight savings time ends next Sunday morning. I want to ride at least another 400 to 500 miles before the year ends.
Today’s ride information:
- October miles 601.38
- This week’s miles 126.79
- YTD miles 4602.97
