Tour de Longneques – Castell, TX
A growing crowd of central Texas (and beyond) cyclists/recumbent riders/catrikers are converging on Llano County for the next running of the Tour de Longneques on 23 October. Those with the get up and go to ride the full 36 mile round trip between Llano and Castell will start out from Castell at 9am and ride to Llano and back. Those with as yet insufficiently developed get up and go will start from the Llano County Courthouse at about 9:30-9:45 (faster folks start at 9:45, slower ones at 9:30 please, but as this is a militantly unorganized fun event do what you will) and will ride the 18 miles to Castell.
We generally have a couple of pickups with driving the route to rescue breakdowns, but, no guarantees on that.
Once we all end up in Castell there will be a mass rush down to the Llano River a block from the Castell General Store to climb down from the low water crossing and soak in the mystically (to some of us anyway) healing waters of the Llano River rapids just below the bridge. Then we hike back up to the General Store and enjoy a couple of Lone Star Longnecks ($2 each, unless the price changes! sissybeers are more costly) and some BBQ.
For more insight, and grasp of the historic nature (tongue firmly in cheek), of this ride check out my posts on some previous rides of this route (in chronological order of occurance).
