Today I rode the 75 mile route of the Hotter’n Hell 100. The weather was perfect for the ride. At the start the temperature was 69 degrees, skies clear blue and the wind out of the southeast at a light 6 to 8 mph. I lined up at 6:40 AM at the 100 mile slow rider group on Scott Street at 5th Street. The USAF jets were supposed to fly over at 7:00 AM but it was a few minutes later as the Star Spangled Banner finished. Next the cannon went off but I did not start my Garmin Edge 305 timer until 7:35 AM when our group moved forward. Unlike years before when a group moved you would not really move much but just up to the group in front of you, this year once we moved we stayed moving. This was much better because at the north end of Scott Street is a tall overpass that causes a backup when the riders do not have momentum to ride up and over.
In this post I will include video at the start line and follow up with video from the ride in a separate post.
The gallery below are pictures from Friday August 27th. The one that does not relate to the HH100 is the truck with the giant wind turbine blades. We passed this truck several times as we stopped and it did not. West Texas is a big location for wind generated electricity. Click on anyone of the pictures to open the gallery. The you can navigate the others by clicking on the one you want to see. The first picture is the hotel we stayed at in Henrietta. The others are at the start line on Saturday morning.
