August 25th Bike Ride – The Heat Will Break

Today is supposed to be the last day for the near 100 degree temperatures until maybe next week. During the afternoon the temperature was 99 degrees but unlike other days the heat index was only 100 instead of the 108 of earlier. What this means is that the temperatures in Wichita Falls will probably not be over 100 degrees for Saturday’s bike ride. If memory serves me correct this could be third year in a row with the temperature below 100 degrees. I am not complaining, just observing.
The skies were clear for this evening’s ride but the wind has picked up some with the change in the weather. 13 mph from the northeast brought some resistance at times. In preparation of the ride this Saturday I have been riding in a 13 x 39 gear combination during the last several rides. Tonight I tried to stay in that gear from the 10 mile mark until the finish. I expected the legs to complain but it was not bad. Rarely do I get in a smaller rear cog unless I am going downhill with a tailwind. As you seen on the elevation chart there is not a big change from beginning to end.
Tomorrow evening I hope to get 22 to 23 miles in to position my weekly mileage at around 150 to 170. Time will tell if I make it.
This evening’s ride statistics:
- miles 24.31
