A Broken Tooth – August 4th Bike Ride

At lunch today I broke a large piece off of a tooth that my dentist has been warning me about for several years. I was eating raisins at the time. This has nothing to do with my bike ride this evening other than it was a major event. My wife has warned me for years not to eat Corn Nuts which I have not done but after I get the tooth fixed I might give them a try.
The real factor in the evening ride was the heat warning the weatherman had issued. When I left on my ride the temperature was 96 degrees and the heat index was 106 degrees. I could feel the heat but I was also surprised at one point during the ride I was coming off the east end of the FM1960 McKay Causeway and entered a pocket of significantly cooler air. Sadly it last only about 100 feet of travel. Otherwise the skies were mostly cloudy and the wind was 10 mph from the SSE.
No riders spotted during the ride. I am trying to build up some miles because on Saturday I will be at Word Camp Houston all day.
Today’s ride statistics:
- miles = 25.06
- riding time = 1:39:11
