Most people remember the joy of taking off on their first solo bike ride. A group of children with disabilities is now experiencing the same thrill. The opportunity comes courtesy of a bike riding class at University of Texas at Arlington.
For children with disabilities learning to ride a bike comes with added challenges. Robin McGowan’s daughter, Amanda, who has Down syndrome has always wanted to ride a bike. “We’ve practiced at home, but could never get the balance,” the mother said. …

Don’t let the name deceive you – this is our most un-mellow ride of the week. It’s a 2-3hr intermediate to advanced ride. Averaging 17-19mph with speeds in the mid to upper 20s at times. This is NOT a “no-drop” ride and routes vary. Riders should come expecting a challenging road ride and bring the proper equipment. Helmets, clipless shoes, two water bottles, and the experience and tools to change your own flats.
