May 06, 2010  — Our 10 member team, Los Mariachis de Ciclo (The Mariachis of Cycling), biked on May 1-2, 2010 in the Bike MS Sam’s Club ride from Frisco to Ft Worth, Texas. The ride was 159 miles total (day one 84 miles, day two 75 miles). We’re riding to raise money to help cure Multiple Sclerosis.

Those of you who read this column on a regular basis have figured out I enjoy epic rides, races in nasty weather and hard workouts. All of these add to the challenge and make me glad to be alive.

There are some days, however, when I want the predictability and sense of peace that comes from being with an old friend. On those days, I head to Spillway Hill.

Spillway is what we call the small hill just outside the back gate of Middle Concho Park. As hills go, it’s not much — the elevation gain top to bottom is only about 95 feet. …
