Wind Alert, 25-30 MPH. May 12th Bike Ride
The weather service issued a wind advisory for today through 7:00 PM. I was out riding at that time and can confirm that the wind was 25 to 30 mph. Going across the McKay Causeway over Lake Houston was exciting particularly when I rode over the openings where the water passed through. At times I had to lean into the wind to compensate for the force pushing the bike in the other direction. This was intensified whenever a vehicle drove by and temporarily blocked the wind and then moved out the way to allow the wind to come back. Amidst this I met a rider on a “fixie” with the narrow straight handlebars. I imagine the short bars made steering in the wind a challenge. While the wind was high the temperature was a mild 88 degrees and mostly cloudy.
