The Grass Is Greener On the Other Side, April 21st Bike Ride
The grass is greener on the east side of Lake Houston. The reason: this is where many of the St. Augustine grass farms are located. In the Houston area the grass of choice is St. Augustine because it can handle the water extremes and the temperature extremes. Until recently the only ways to get a lawn was to plug or sod your yard. The area in far east Harris county and far west Liberty county are where the grass farms are located. Today I had some extra time so I rode on the roads that go through the farms. Maybe once upon a time this was rice farming, I don’t know why this area was chosen. Partly cloudy skies, temperature at 78 degrees and a ESE 10 mph breeze made for a great ride. I did see a couple of other riders but no groups.
Today’s ride statistics:
- miles = 36.74
