Texas Bicycling Blog and News Roundup for April 19th
Bike On with Your Lights On
by San Antonio Current (blog)
From the files of Obscure Safety Ordinances With Expensive Fines comes a new one unanimously passed by City Council on April 8. (If by ‘new,’ we mean ‘something that has been a part of the Texas Transportation Code since 1995,’ but that’s our edgy city council for you). The ordinance in question amends the city code to “require the proper use of bicycle lighting equipment when operating a bicycle at nighttime by incorporating language contained in the Texas State Transportation Code into the City Code.” What the Texas Transportation Code consider…
#17 Ronde von Manor: Race Report « Gene’s Blog
This is a race report of Ronde von Manor, a single-day race hosted by Velossimo Racing on the 27th of March. It’s been a while since I last posted, so my memory is kind of hazy with this one. My participation in this race was pretty much on a whim, especially since the Texas State collegiate race, which would have coincided with this race, was canceled the week before. This was the first USCF race…

I can’t answer for everyone on this ride, only myself. Last fall, I was faced with what one person called a “crisis of conscience†as Peruvian orphans were standing before me, around me and in my arms. Before support from the Texas …

Lytle to Uvalde: Pathfinder’s Wrong Turn and the Ruins of D’Hanis
Wednesday March 10, 2010, 79 miles (127 km) – Total so far: 153 miles (246 km)
Pathfinder had calculated it to be a 70-mile ride from Lytle to Uvalde.
However, further down the highway, the surface of the back roads changed considerably. I could tell Pathfinder was unusually taken aback. I was not going to elaborate on a wrong turn that added six miles to our ride before we even got to Highway 90 near Hondo. I had after all, added a few more miles in my determination to see the ruins of Old D’Hanis. …
