Shovel Ready Work Stops Bike Route

I was not able to make the organized ride in Kountz that I thought about doing so I decided to drive to Splendora and start my ride there. This was necessary due to all of the construction on US59, FM1314 and FM1485 that I use to as jump off roads for my weekend rides. The shovels were flying and the concrete is pouring. This sign about sharing the road was fitting since I am sharing with all of the construction vehicles and workers.

I decided to record the route using Bikely.com. I have not used Bikely.com before so there was a learning experience figuring out how to get the route to appear.

  1. Wow! I grew up in Splendora, and my parents and grandparents still live there. You are one brave soul to ride 105 between Conroe and Cleveland. Lots of folks using the shoulder to let people pass, and/or passing people making left turns. I’ve *never* taken my bike home to ride…maybe you’ve inspired me.

  2. 105 traffic was not bad. The shoulder is 8 foot wide almost all of the way from Loop 336 to Fostoria Road. The few places it is not wide are where they have inserted left-hand turn lanes in the middle. I did not mention the strong tailwind most of the way even though I changed directions. Well, maybe there were times it was a headwind.
