More than 160 Texas bicyclists who have ridden the extensive and sometimes grueling trip from Austin to Anchorage, Alaska, made a much shorter trip to Austin City Hall Thursday morning.
The bicyclists, dressed in burnt-orange and white jerseys, presented a $50,000 check to the American Cancer Society. The bicyclists are part of Texas 4000 For Cancer, a four-year-old program that raises money for cancer research by asking for donations for each mile of their 4,500-mile journey. In honor of their accomplishments, Mayor Will Wynn declared Dec. 6 "Texas 4000 Day."
"It’s the best thing I’ve ever done in my entire life," said Amy Albin, who participated in this year’s Texas 4000.
