Debate over bike helmets heats up again for Austin riders
The debate over whether to require Austin bicyclists to wear helmets is being revived.
Mayor Will Wynn and local medical leaders announced Wednesday that Brackenridge Hospital and St. David’s HealthCare will conduct a yearlong study on head injuries from bike accidents starting Nov. 1.
They’ll report the findings to the City Council, which considered an ordinance to require bike-helmet use in August but never voted on it. The idea drew staunch opposition from some cyclists.
