Another moisture interrupted bike ride. Wheels down at 9:37 AM on my Canyon Endurace CF 7 bike. The plan was to ride north on the Kingwood – FM1485 – Kingwood route which would have been long enough to reach my August goal. As I rode several Kingwood Villages passing through patches of mist I was optimistic but once I reached the US59 north bound frontage road heading to FM1314 the mist increased to a drizzle with some fog thrown in. I didn’t know if this stretched beyond FM1314 so I made the u-turn under US59 and headed back. I moved to the side streets in Auburn Trails and Oakhurst and the drizzle returned to patches of mist before disappearing in Kings Manor and Kingwood. I rode 22.74 miles, not enough to reach my goal but leaving just 5 miles. I think I can hit my goal tomorrow. I finished the ride at 11:28 AM. Weather: Start 76 degrees, humidity 94%, dew point 74.3, overcast, wind NE 10 mph; Finish 76 degrees, humidity 94%, dew point 74.3, light drizzle fog, wind N 9 mph.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority said the bike lane remains under evaluation, but there are no immediate plans to construct the lane.
A popular bus route that links downtown to the MLK Health Center in south Harris County will no longer include bike lanes, according to a Metropolitan Transit Authority spokesperson.
Construction of this corridor started last year between McGowen and Mainer streets, with work continuing through this year. The 54 Scott BOOST project is supposed to revamp a total of 11 miles between downtown and the MLK Health Center, with new updates to its bus stops, ramps, sidewalks, and bike lanes. However, the bike lanes have now been put on the back burner with METRO confirming to Chron that the lanes are …

Thinking about doing that 100 mile ride next year? This guy tells us about his experience this past weekend along the way.
Well another Hotter’N Hell Hundred in the books from this past weekend in Wichita Falls. Thousands of folks took part in the annual ride. Whether it was the 10K or the 100 mile ride. Thousands lined up Scott Avenue this past Saturday morning and I happened to stumble on this YouTuber named Dale Wilkeson Jr who did the ride over the weekend. …
Who’s cleaning Houston’s bikeways?
BikeHouston Email Newsletter
Members of Gear Shifters, BikeHouston’s corps of volunteer advocates, took some time this past weekend to remove a tree that had fallen on the Buffalo Bayou Greenway east of downtown.
Unfortunately, this won’t be the last bikeway our intrepid volunteers tackle this year. The City of Houston is no longer keeping up with its commitment to clear debris from on-street bikeways: Houston Public Works quietly decommissioned the Space City Sweeper earlier this year, and Mayor Whitmire’s FY2025 budget does not appear to include funds to replace it. So until our elected leaders come up with a new way to maintain this critical transportation infrastructure, we’re going to have to take care of it ourselves.
The ride went south and east but not as far as I planned. I planned on riding the Atascocita – Walden – Huffman route starting at 9:40 AM but approaching Walden the sky to the south looked like rain. I thought I could still ride the route if I pedaled the Lynskey Helix bike fast. I continued riding through Walden, Atascocita and back to FM1960. Crossing Lake Houston I looked to the south and the sky looked ominous with dark clouds to the horizon but I pedaled on. I made the right turn onto Fairlake Lane with the view of the sky through the trees, it didn’t look promising. Rounding the “S” curve light rain greeted me and I made the decision to make a u-turn. From that point it was a race back home against the advancing dark clouds. Looking west as I came across Lake Houston I thought rain was waiting for me but it was dry. Following Atascocita Shores Drive and Kings River Drive was parallel to the line of dark clouds to my left. Finally W. Lake Houston Parkway arrived. Now I rode perpendicular to the threatening clouds and hopefully away from them. I rode the usual streets back home finishing at 12:17 PM. There were a few wet spots on the driveway from stray rain drops but no more.
Even though the ride didn’t go as long as I planned the 32.06 miles got me to with 28 miles of my August goal of 904 miles. Now if the weather will cooperate Friday and Saturday I should reach the goal.
I stopped for a few minutes on the Atascocita Hike and Bike Trail and took these photos.

The Denton County Transportation Authority announced plans to help fund six projects to provide safer transit for commuters — including those on foot and on bike — around Denton and Lewisville.
The projects total about $21.1 million, with $6.96 million being requested through DCTA’s Transportation Reinvestment Program (TRiP), which provides financial assistance to member cities for transit-related projects.
DCTA Planning Manager Karina Maldonado said one project is for Lewisville and five are the city of Denton. …
HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – Houston has never been known as a cyclist-friendly city, but that doesn’t mean the demand for a bike share program ceases to exist.
“It’s just one way people can get around in the city,” Charles Sechrengost said while walking around Montrose Wednesday afternoon.
Mofa Ali echoed those thoughts to ABC13 shortly thereafter.
“It would be better if you could get around on two wheels,” Ali said.
There is currently no bike share program in the city, but …
The Texas Department of Transportation is asking for the public’s opinion on potential roadway improvements along Highway 21 ,including adding additional lanes as well as accommodations for bicycles and pedestrians. … “The study will address future traffic demand based on population growth, environmental impacts and safety and accessibility improvements for rapidly growing communities. TxDOT’s project development process includes conducting an environmental analysis and development of schematic design concepts, which support potential solutions for the future traffic demands and safety improvements within the corridor. The proposed project would add capacity in each direction of the roadway and provide bicycle and pedestrian accommodations.” …
