Route Revamp: More Miles and Memories on the Cervelo Caledonia
For awhile I wanted to change the New Caney – Gene Campbell Road route name because it doesn’t really describe where the ride goes. Today I added a side trip to The Highlands from FM1314 and it was time to come up with a better name: New Caney – Gene Campbell Blvd – The Highlands – FM1314. Much better description and about 2 miles longer as well. Wheels down and rolling at 9:56 AM on my Cervelo Caledonia bike. I rode through several Kingwood villages, Woodridge Forest to get to the US59 northbound frontage road. I stayed on there until TX99 riding to Loop 494 with my first taste of the east wind. Loop 494 took me to Payne Road, back to the frontage road for a couple hundred feet to loop under US59 and on to FM1485. A little over 2 miles on FM1485 I turned left onto Gene Campbell Blvd. Not long after that a Strava segment popped up on the Bolt computer screen lasting 2.09 miles. A loop around the industrial park brought me back to Gene Campbell Blvd. The next excursion went through Porters Mill where I stopped for a few minutes at the pool. Several people were in the pool keeping cool and wet.
Back to Gene Campbell Blvd. and then FM1314. I expected some headwind on FM1314 and when the traffic wasn’t passing me it was there. Cumberland Blvd. came after riding under TX99 where I rode to The Highlands entrance and made the u-turn back to FM1314. The Circle K at Sorters Road looked like a good place to eat the cinnamon swirl I brought and drink water. A couple of people chatted with me as they came and went into the store. FM1314, Old Sorters Road took me to Briar Tree, then Oakhurst, Northpark Drive, Kingwood Place, and back to US59 for the last 6 miles of the ride. I finished at 1:28 PM.
