Lake Houston Lookout: Spotting Cyclists on an Early Morning Route
Surprised myself by starting the bike ride at 8:09 AM; earliest start this week. I wanted to get to FM1960 where I begin seeing other cyclists on Saturday. I rode my Cervelo Caledonia bike on what I call the Atascocita – Huffman – Walden route but that name covers many route differences. I changed the streets until about 4 miles before returning to the usual one. Strava found one other ride that matched this route from Saturday June 18th, 2022. I’m not sure how exact a route has to be for a match but that one did. As I rode over Lake Houston going east I spotted the first group of cyclists. From there I saw more but not as many as last Saturday. A group of 5 passed me at the Huffman Chevron station as I was leaving. I don’t usually see other cyclists at that spot but later at Fairlake Lane. The 4 mph wind wasn’t a factor in the ride no matter which direction I rode. The legs were good over the mostly flat roads and streets. I finished before the heat at 10:51 AM.
Riding through Walden I was tempted to check out the mud under FM1960 on the Atascocita Hike and Bike Trail but I didn’t give in. I’ll give the county maintenance crew more time.
I don’t think much about cadence during a ride but when I look at the graph afterwards it is interesting, especially the total revolutions.
