Stretching: Spring Creek Greenway – City Place – San Jacinto Bayou Greenway
After almost 2 years since my last bike ride on the Spring Creek Greenway to I-45 and hearing that it extended to Exxon Mobil in Springwoods I figured to see for myself on Memorial Day. The Giro d’Italia was over letting me start early. I rolled away on my Canyon Endurace CF 7 at 9:22 AM (not as early as I wanted). The June 6th, 2022 ride was 50.41 miles long. With the added destination today I left off some of the streets because I wasn’t sure what the total mileage would be. Also I would skip the side streets at Carter Park trailhead and John Pundt Park. When I arrived at the US59 trailhead several cyclists and cars with racks were around.
The recent rains and flooding was evident in places on the greenway. The greenway leaving John Pundt Park back to US59 was blocked but there was another way to get around it. Cyclists were out in force. My video probably captures a tenth of them. I’m thinking part of increased cyclists came from the Springwoods connection since I saw a number riding in that area. I rode around City Place where some stores and a hotel were at before heading back. I looked for a convenience store to buy a drink but only saw Starbucks. Fortunately I had my CamelBak for hydration but with the heat I wanted to conserve water for the ride back to the San Jacinto Bayou Greenway and Kingwood. The ride distance came in at 51.45 miles when I finished at 1:56 PM. Strava results: (3 of the 6 medals) PR on Check your MPH & duck under the RR track! (3:11), PR on This Part (4:49), and 3rd fastest time on 45 to DJ (12:22). Link to the AXS.SRAM.com ride report. A number of cyclists rode MTB’s, maybe I should ride my Trek Marlin 8 MTB there. I saw one single speed with gold rims, maybe 2 e-bikes, and 2 electric skateboards.
Weather: Start 82 degrees, humidity 85%, dew point 77.5, cloud cover 49%, wind S 5 mph; @ Pundt Park cloud cover 26%, wind SSE 6 mph; Finish 91 degrees, humidity 66%, dew point 77.8, cloud 28%, wind SE 7 mph. A heat advisory was out until 10 PM tonight. I finished before the heat got serious.
