Dusted Off A 2023 Route, Legs Felt Good Powering My Average Speed Up
I dusted off a route I haven’t rode since September 20th, 2023, New Caney – Gene Campbell Road. A more descriptive route name is New Caney – Gene Campbell Road – FM1314. I don’t think I rode the exact same streets because today I rode 39.23 miles and the average distance for this route is just under 39 miles. Remembering the streets after a 7 month absence is hard. The bike ride was on streets/roads I ride weekly until I stayed on the US59 northbound frontage road after riding under the TX 99 overpass at Community Drive. With today’s bike ride I’m 59% of the way to my 799 road miles goal for April. I’m trying to get ahead in case the weather acts up. I delayed the start to watch the men’s and women’s Flèche Wallonne race from Belgium until 11:40 AM and finished at 2:35 PM. The Canyon Endurace CF 7 bike was my choice today.
The legs felt good today powering my overall average speed up to 14.4 mph for several miles.
Weather: Start 77 degrees, humidity 81%, dew point 71.2, overcast, wind SSE 10 mph; Finish 79 degrees, humidity 75%, dew point 70.3, cloudy, wind SE 13 mph. Riding SE on FM1314 was the hardest due to the headwind.
