Back Riding After Thursday Rain Out Making Up Miles
Thursday’s rain moved away leaving a great day to ride on Friday. It was cool this morning when I woke up, 66 degrees, but once the sun came up it got warmer. I tried to start before 10 AM but as I was filling my water bottle I saw ants moving on the countertop. I thought I found the mounds yesterday and sprayed but maybe I missed someplace. Spraying and chasing them slowed me up. I rolled out on my Canyon Endurace with the DT Swiss and Schwalbe 700x35mm tires at 10:31 AM. Riding through several Kingwood Villages I made my way to Woodridge Forest and US59. The route choice today was Community Drive – Cumberland Blvd – Oakhurst or Community Drive – Valley Ranch – Gene Campbell Blvd. I would decide when I got to Cumberland Blvd. I wasn’t sure what would impact the decision when I got there. As it turned out at Cumberland Blvd. I continued riding NW to Gene Campbell Blvd. because the weather was great and I needed the extra miles to make up for the rain outs on Tuesday and Thursday. The NE wind was challenging on the way to TX 99 where I made the turn to Loop 494 changing the direction to west and then south for Valley Ranch. I wasn’t sure how the wind would affect biking NW on FM 1314 but it most of the way it came from my right rear quarter. With that I thought making the return to Old Sorters Road would put the wind at my left front quarter and require extra effort. The wind wasn’t as strong as I expected thanks to passing traffic and the trees on the other side of FM 1314. I built up my overall average speed to 14.0 mph and held it until I got to Kings Manor. I finished at 1:37 PM going 39.67 miles.
