  1. Rick, nice of you to post some details about better routes on the island. I was there in Galveston for a few days last October, but didn’t get to ride any there, much as I wanted to. I’d spent a couple of days with family near Cleveland, and rode ~40+ miles there one day, but flatted TWICE, and the couple of bike shops on the island didn’t have road tubes. Had other activities planned, so no chance to zip up into Houston suburbs to get an appropriate tube. Reminds me a bit of a couple of years ago in Sarasota, FL-to-Venice area: marvelous bike paths there, great signage, well-maintained, lots of wildlife, tropical flowers – and NO HILLS, haha. Hope to get back to Galveston soon! Thanks, Brian

  2. Thanks for reading. Galveston isn’t very big so finding different places to ride can be interesting. I was looking at the map on Google and noticed Stewart Road. It was a way to avoid the very narrow shoulder from the end of the seawall to Jamaica Beach. I used to ride around Cleveland when I lived in New Caney and before all of the road construction. Road bikes are rare in Galveston which probably explains the lack of tubes. Beach cruisers are the norm or e-bikes. The wind can be tough on the island.
