The end of the road for Houston’s bike sharing system might be a little further off into the distance after all, provided a funding boost from the city comes in.
Mayor Sylvester Turner said he will ask the City Council, likely next week, to approve $500,000 in funding for the nonprofit bike system, aimed at keeping it running another public bike rental service is in place.
“I don’t want the end user to lose,” Turner said during the Wednesday’s City Council meeting. …

USA Cycling Announces 2023 Gravel World Championships Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (September 18, 2023) – The 2023 UCI Gravel World Championships are set to take place in Veneto, Italy on October 7-8, 2023. In the event’s second year, USA Cycling is sending a team with goals of a podium for the American racers.
As part of the UCI’s Cycling for All initiative, the Gravel World Championships qualification process is multi-faceted. Riders can qualify for their age group by finishing in the top 25% of one of the Trek UCI Gravel World Series events. Additionally, riders who won their National Championship category at the 2023 National Championships were also nominated, including the top three of the elite races. UPDATE: 10:15 a.m. – According to CCPD, two of the three stolen bikes have been recovered, including one that’s worth $15,000.
“They came in the store and immediately grabbed the most expensive bikes in the store, so it’s kind of an off coincidence that they did that unknowingly,” Bay Area Bicycles owner David Pena said.
Pena said that police told him that one of the suspects was arrested when police spotted him riding the stolen $15,000 bike.
Unfortunately, the bike now has $3,000 in damages. …
Man throws bike in front of cyclist causing crash, then assaults victim

MCKINNEY (CBSnewsTexas.com) – He reportedly threw his bike in the path of another cyclist who only minutes before has passed him on the trail, causing the victim to flip over his handlebar.
Now detectives with the McKinney Police Department are asking for the public’s help identifying the suspect in an unprovoked assault on Aug. 26.
It was about 9:30 in the morning when the victim was riding his bike on the trails through Erwin Park. He told police that the suspect starting cursing at him after the victim rode by him.

LONGVIEW, Texas (KLTV) – An East Texas city considers plans to expand their network of walking trails, with the help of some handy grant money.
Longview City Council will take up the issue, on how to do it, and overcome possible obstacles.
With its beginnings in the early 1980s, the Longview trail system has become popular with runners, cyclists and walkers.
“Having heard from so many people that the trail system is one of those things that draw people in from everywhere,” said Longview’s director of parks and recreation John Albertson.
