Other Cyclists: Inspiring And Enjoyable
I find it inspiring and enjoyable to see other cyclists while I am out on a ride. I wondered if starting today’s bike ride at 8:27 AM might be too late to see other cyclists. I delayed the start to allow the fog to burn off. Aboard my Cervelo Caledonia I headed out intending to ride my typical route, Atascocita – Huffman – Walden, but as the ride moved along I changed to the Atascocita – Spanish Cove – Walden route. The routes include many of the same streets. Today’s route is slightly longer distance and I rode 35.22 miles compared to the 33 mile average for the other route.
No bike ride yesterday. The City of Houston showed up to repair the water line to my house and my neighbor. The work crew severed my internet service cable twice. I also waited for the refrigerator repair man to arrive. The repair man arrived, installed the part and then determined another part was needed. He couldn’t get the part before he went on vacation so I drove to a parts’ distributor, picked it up, and installed it. Then it started raining. So much for biking on Friday.
On today’s bike ride it wasn’t long before I saw the first cyclist. After that other cyclists crossed my ride going the opposite direction. No need to wonder if starting later meant not seeing them. All but one of them are in the video. Riding on the greenbelt trail beside Kingwood Drive by Kingwood High School a track meet was taking place. A group of boys ran on the greenbelt and the last one yelled “Texbiker, I watch your videos on YouTube.” Quite a surprise.
The break of hot weather continued this morning but the high humidity and dew point offered another challenge. My kit was soaked at the 11:09 AM finish. Weather: Start 74 degrees, 98% humidity, dew point 73.1, mostly cloudy, wind calm; Finish 84 degrees, 71% humidity, dew point 73.4, mostly cloudy, wind variable 5 mph.
