Biking Adventures: Overcoming Tech Glitches and Surpassing Weekly Mileage Goals
Saturday bike rides have a ring about them as the week winds down and the anticipation of seeing other cyclists along the route. Most Saturday rides follow one of two routes, Atascocita – Huffman – Walden or Atascocita – Spanish Cove – Huffman. Today I rode the first route. These routes get me to FM 1960 sooner delaying the loop through Walden until returning back over Lake Houston to see other cyclists. I started seeing other cyclists as I neared the east side of Lake Houston on FM 1960 then on Fairlake Lane and Old Atascocita Road. Back in Kingwood 4 cyclists passed me. The week total stood at 183 miles as I began the ride and the route averages 34 miles. Starting at 7:46 AM, the earliest start this week, aboard my Canyon Endurace bike the Bolt computer failed to record the first 1/2 mile until I pressed the paused button. To compensate I added a few streets to get the distance closer to what it should’ve been. At the 10:32 AM finish the total distance came at 34.07 miles. This put the week at 217.25 miles and 703.99 for July, 97 miles to reach my 800 mile goal.
Starting before 8 AM the humidity was higher than the temperature, 85% versus 82 degrees. For a few miles it felt cool but once I warmed up and the sweating started my kit was quickly soaked. The wind was light as first but increased to 10 mph when I finished punishing my legs some. It wasn’t my fastest ride on the route but I was okay with it. Weather overall: Start 82 degrees, 85% humidity, dew point 76.5, a few clouds, wind W 4 mph; Finish 88 degrees, 67% humidity, dew point 76.1, partly cloudy, wind W 10 mph.
