Community Drive – Cumberland – Oakhurst Riding My Lynskey Helix
I managed to get today’s bike ride started before 9 AM but just barely rolling out at 8:58 AM. The heat advisory chain continues and I wanted to finish by noon but I missed that by 4 minutes. Today I rode north to Community Drive, then turned south through Valley Ranch and onto FM 1314. I stayed on FM 1314 to the northwest to Cumberland Blvd. where I made the u-turn and continued back to Old Sorters Road with a brief stop at the Circle K at Sorters Road to top off my water bottle for the 12 miles to the finish. Briar Tree, Oakhurst and Kings Manor got me back into Kingwood. Nothing out of the ordinary during the ride until a Houston Fire truck with lights flashing and siren blaring came towards me on Rockmead Drive. Not sure why the fire truck was taking this route but maybe because of a road closure at Kingwood Drive and Loop 494 due to construction.
Today’s ride followed my Community Drive – Cumberland – Oakhurst route but probably varied a little from streets on the previous rides. I checked the ride map from the June 21st ride to refresh which roads to ride but made a change from Eagle Drive north of TX 99 to Community Drive to Loop 494 and then the TX 99 west bound frontage road back to US59/I-69. From the rides history the most used bike is the Lynskey Helix which I rode today.
Weather conditions: Start 86 degrees, 74% humidity, dew point 76.8, mostly cloudy, wind S 7 mph; Finish 94 degrees, 52% humidity, dew point 73.6, a few clouds, wind variable 6 mph. Wind remains light for my bike rides. In the shade it is strong enough to provide some cooling effect.
