Fruit Salad Assembly Slowed The Start. Atascocita – Walden – Huffman Route
I was slow getting started on today’s bike ride. It took a little longer than I expected to make a fruit salad for my dominoes group that meets tonight. Stage 16 of the Tour de France was on as I ate breakfast until I paused it to watch when I got back. I didn’t expect the results. I rode my Cervelo Caledonia bike starting at 9:02 AM, the first ride after 9 AM in awhile. The ride went south and east to FM 2100 and turned back to Kingwood generally following my Atascocita – Walden – Huffman route. I saw other cyclists with a group of 5 riding west over Lake Houston as I went east. I’ve seen some them on other rides. I was back home at 11:52 AM before the heat ramped up.
This ride incorporated a few different streets from the usual ones. I rode on more greenbelt trail at the start, took a short northerly loop on Woodland Hills Drive, circled on Rocky Woods in Kings Forest, and rode a loop by the golf course in Kingwood Greens. When I got to FM 2100 I decided to not go south to Spanish Cove Drive because of the extra streets earlier.
Heat continues to bake the Houston area and many parts of Texas. Yesterday evening around 6 PM my home weather station hit 100 degrees. It wasn’t that hot for today’s bike ride but it was in the forecast for later in the day. The spread between the temperature and humidity was 12 when I start which helps some. Weather while I biked: Start 86 degrees, 74% humidity, dew point 76.7, mostly cloudy, wind SW 7 mph; Finish 91 degrees, 59% humidity, dew point 74.3, partly cloudy, wind SW 9 mph. Light wind helped my legs.
