Texas 4000 bicycle team on trek to Alaska to fight cancer

You may have spotted a team of bicyclists rolling through western Kentucky and southern Illinois this weekend. It was a return to the region by the Texas 4000 cycling team, who is making another 4000-mile run from Texas to Alaska to raise money for cancer research.
The "Ozarks" half of the split team left Memphis last Thursday and pedaled into Paducah last Saturday, then Marion, Illinois on Monday. They’ll continue on Day 28 of their journey to Chicago today, en route through Wisconsin and Minnesota beforecrossing into Canada for the majority of their miles to Anchorage at the end of July.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A woman is dead after she was hit and killed by a driver near the scene of the end of a police chase on Houston’s westside.
The eastbound lanes of Westheimer Road between Hillcroft Avenue and Winrock Boulevard were closed for hours following the two separate incidents.

Summer is here and that means lots of kids are spending a lot more time outside and that might include riding their bikes.
Now, the Pharr Police Department want to make sure kids are up to speed on bike safety. They will host a Bicycle Rodeo at the Jose "Pepe" Salinas Memorial Civic Center on Friday at 6 p.m.
The rodeo will teach kids and teens about bike safety, and they will have the chance to learn new riding skills and how to stay safe while sharing the road with drivers.

For years, community members from the Greater Heights and surrounding neighborhoods have rallied each year to celebrate community at the annual Heights Hike and Bike Rally. But the most recent event, organizers say, may have been its best one yet.
This past weekend, hundreds of community members took to the streets of the Greater Heights neighborhood for the Houston Heights Association’s annual Hike and Bike Rally and Scavenger Hunt.
