Zwift – Started Makuri Islands Chasing The Sun Then Changed
The last time I rode Zwift was February 18th since the weather has been good for riding outside. Today it was cooler than I prefer at 55 degrees when the decision time came on whether to ride outside or on Zwift. I chose Zwift.
Looking at the upcoming events there wasn’t one that interested me or started soon enough. I looked at the list of routes in Makuri Islands and saw I hadn’t rode before, Chasing The Sun. It is 21.8 miles and climbs 1,034 feet according to the description in Zwift. That looked doable. I got dressed, warmed up for about 5 minutes and then started the ride.
The climbing was concentrated in two hills, the first one starting around 5km and the second at 17km. I rode over the first climb but when the turn came to the Forest Climb I changed the route. Up to that point I had climbed 619 feet and I didn’t want to climb the remaining 400 feet. I wasn’t sure where I would go. I made a couple of other turn changes from the roads Zwift put up. I based my choice on how flat the options were and chose the flatter one. I ended up riding 13.0 miles out of the 21.8 miles on Chasing The Sun. At that point I moved to the Castle Path road. I turned on a couple of other roads from the planned ones Zwift showed. I rode 22.16 miles and climbed 807 feet. Longer distance, less climbing.
