Day 37: Austin to LaGrange: A long day
Tuesday November 8, 2022, 89 miles (143 km) – Total so far: 1,794 miles (2,887 km) We left our place in Austin early, about 8:00 AM, but it took us more than 2 hours (18 mi) to make it out of the city. Google Maps befuddled us again. It just doesn’t do very well in places where there are new roads, like new housing developments. We eventually found our way back to the ACA route and headed toward Bastrop. After a rest there, we rode 14 miles through 2 state parks. Beautiful, but quite hilly. We found ourselves in pine woods for the first time. Very different terrain and climate from west Texas! And it was very humid today, we were really sweating even though it was not so hot, about …
Day 38: La Grange to Navasota: Green Fields and Fracking
Wednesday November 9, 2022, 66 miles (106 km) – Total so far: 1,860 miles (2,993 km) Today was a much better ride than yesterday. Still challenging, but we didn’t have to find our way out of s as big city, and we rode fewer miles, all in the daylight! We left La Grange at about 8:00 after a stop at the donut shop. Much of the ride today was through rolling fields of grass, with scattered old live oaks and occasional herds of fancy looking cows. Several small towns, including Warrenton and Round Top, where according to the cafe lady in Round Top, occurs the largest antique selling festival in North America, twice a year.
