How Much Wind Is Too Much? Complaining Doesn’t Change It
I had time to watch the women’s Liège-Bastogne-Liège race and all but the last 24 km of the men’s race before leaving for church this morning. After church I finished watching the men’s race before heading out on today’s bike ride at 1:42 PM riding my Lynskey R300 bike. I chose the shorter “Forest Cove – Oakhurst – Kingwood” route that I rode last Sunday but change a few streets. This was the second time riding this route in 2022. Before the ride the week totaled 218+ miles and with today’s 20.17 miles it increased to 238.86 miles. Out of the last 7 weeks 6 have been 200+ miles. April totals 779.3 road miles plus 21.9 Zwift miles. I finished the ride at 3:15 PM
Strong wind continued today with 31 mph gusts. When I rode into the headwind it wanted to push the Lynskey around but I held tight. Earlier this week I saw an article from Bicycling.com about riding in what they called strong winds, 15 mph. I wish the wind here was that low. When May arrives I hope the wind drops off some. Weather conditions for today’s ride: 84 (humidity 62%, dew point 70), mostly cloudy, wind S 16 mph gusts 29 mph; finish 84 (humidity 61%, dew point 70), mostly cloudy, wind S 17 mph gusts 31 mph. Lots of sunshine and the wind helped keep the heat perception lower than 84. There is a mention of rain next week so I may be Zwifting. I hate to drone on about the wind and complaining doesn’t change it.
I modified the GoPro mount setup on the Lynskey to an out front mount rather than the handle bar mount that wasn’t very stable. The new mount setup keeps the Bolt computer out of view, is easier to press the record button, and is solid. I rode over some cobbles entering Oakhurst and the GoPro barely vibrated.
Lots of top results from Strava.
This week was all road bike rides, 5 on my Cervelo and 2 on my Lynskey bikes. The longest ride was Monday at 42.31 miles. I’ve been riding every day starting February 17th through today. I’m working to keep that string going. Rather than cancel my Zwift subscription I’m keeping it for wet days.
