Day 32 : Sanderson Texas to Alpine Texas
Friday April 22, 2022, 85 miles (137 km) – Total so far: 1,994 miles (3,209 km) I slept well last night on an air mattress in a private air conditioned room at the First Baptist church in Sanderson. I was up early once again to begin the ride in the dark with Don. The air was cool and the ride was through the desert the entire way to Marathon. It got light quickly and we stopped at a rest stop to chat with a retired guy from CA before the last miles to Marathon. There we are at the Cafe in town where I had a really good club sandwich. We’d ridden 55 miles and Don did not want to ride further but I did so we parted. I rode on with the intent of getting to Marfa which was another 47 miles. The sky was …

An analysis of power data from pro cyclists quantifies the effects of hot and cold air temperatures on performance
Something is always lost in translation from the lab to the real world—a fact that’s captured in the concept of “ecological validity,” the extent to which the conditions in an experiment match those you’d encounter in the wild. One way around this problem is to skip the lab entirely and search for patterns in naturally occurring data. Cyclists, who gather extensive data about every pedal stroke with their power meters, make particularly good subjects for this kind of analysis, as illustrated by a new study in the International Journal of Sports Physiology and Performance.

Police say the man was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
The person in the SUV got away.
Police have not given a description of the suspect.
Woman who hit, killed North Texas cyclist gets 12 years
By ilyes | jeepanelsplus.com
The Fort Worth woman who in 2018 hit and killed a cyclist in Grand Prairie will spend 12 years in prison after she was found guilty in Dallas County of failure to stop and render aid.
Kallie Wright, 42, was sentenced Thursday in the 291st Judicial District Court, according to KRLD.
Wright hit Calvin Middleton, a 43-year-old cyclist from Cedar Hill, from behind while he was riding his bicycle on Belt Line Road at the intersection with Interstate 20, police said in 2018. Police said Wright got out of her car after striking Middleton but got back in and drove away.
After police located her vehicle and issued a warrant for her arrest, Wright voluntarily surrendered to police.
Middleton, a sports enthusiast, had been training for the last year-and-a-half to a ride in the …

Posted up on Rice Feeds, “anyone want to come down to Sugar Land for the FBK ride?” Douglas “I’m in, leaving Rice at 6am”. Me (YES! Someone as crazy and me!!). “ Sweet!!!! I’ll drive up there to ride with you! I’m crazy like that. Wooooooooooo!!!!!!!”
Took the bayous from Rice all the way to Kirkwood. Had to do a bit-o-cross where the pavement turned to gravel and to get around construction. Kirkwood turns to Dulles and a straight shot south to the ride start at the University Starbucks.
Rolled up to the start just as they were rolling out and …
