Checked Road Construction, Fought Wind, Atascocita – Huffman – Walden Bike Ride
I wasn’t sure how the construction at Atascocita Shores and FM 1960 would impact today’s bike ride but I decided to ride the “Atascocita – Huffman – Walden” route to find out. (The video shows what I found out) Wheels down and rolling on my Cervelo Caledonia at 9:05 AM. It was in the mid 70’s and windy (again). I hoped to see other cyclists along the ride. Next weekend the MS 150 may draw a lot of the cyclists I might normally see. This would be the 4th ride on this route in 2022. I finished at 11:30 AM.
The ride data was average distance, speed, pace, effort, heartrate, and power. All 4 rides have been on the Cervelo bike.
April wind continued strong despite starting earlier than my normal time. Weather conditions: start 76 (humidity 77%, dew point 68), partly cloudy, wind S 13 mph gusts 21 mph; finish 80 (humidity 68%, dew point 69), mostly cloudy, wind S 18 mph gusts 32 mph. The wind work my legs over. Riding east over Lake Houston was hard without anything to block the wind. On the return heading west some of the 32 mph gusts shoved the Cervelo around. Fairlake Lane went into the headwind. It seemed the anticipated tailwind wasn’t as strong as the headwind. I probably could’ve dressed lighter. I wore shorts, a long sleeve jersey (should’ve wore a LS t-shirt), and a Texbiker short sleeve jersey on top. I was sweating but the wind dried it out.
Jumping over to the AXS.SRAM.com ride report I learned:
- total biking time: 2:21:45
- 35×15 gears time 1:11:26, 16.1 miles
- 35×13 gears time 48:05, 12.1 miles
6 other cyclists crossed my route as I crossed Lake Houston and on Old Atascocita Road. You can see them in the video. The GoPro mount helps me get quick shots now that it rides on the Garmin mount. As you can see in the video thumbnail, I don’t shave my legs.
