April Windiest Month. Kingwood – FM1485 – Kingwood Bike Ride
According to Space City Weather April is the windiest month for the Houston area. That was the case for today’s bike ride.
I began the morning watching the Tour of the Alps, La Flèche Wallonne, and La Flèche Wallonne Féminine after overcoming some streaming technical difficulties. I spent time adding a number of events to the Texbiker event calendar. When I got ready for the bike ride I noticed the cadence sensor was not connected to the Bolt computer. Changing the battery fixed the problem and I rolled out on my Lynskey R300 at 11:27 AM. I chose the “Kingwood – FM1485 – Kingwood” route heading north before making the return ride to Kingwood. Today’s bike ride would be challenging due to the strong south wind; 21 mph with 31 to 33 mph gusts.
Getting to FM 1485 I had the help of a tailwind and battled the headwind through New Caney, Valley Ranch, and Oakhurst. Weather conditions: start 75 (humidity 84%, dew point 70), overcast, wind S 20 mph gusts 30 mph; finish 79 (humidity 76%, dew point 71), mostly cloudy, wind S 21 mph gusts 33 mph. No need to dress for chilly weather today. I wore shorts, a LS T-shirt, and a short sleeve jersey.
I wasn’t happy with the mounting position of the GoPro camera and moved it to the handle bar to the right of the stem. Now the Bolt computer does not get in the way of the video as much as before. The photo shows the new position.
I biked this route 4 times so far in 2022. Looking at the summaries of the rides I was about average today. I rode the Lynskey and Cervelo bikes two times each.
