It’s a BikeHouston Day challenge!
via email | BikeHouston.org Five years ago this month, Mayor Turner issued a proclamation making February 27, 2017 "BikeHouston Day." So through the end of February, we’re celebrating the fifth anniversary of this grand occasion by challenging you to hop on your bike and hunt down five places around town, including:
— a statue of a president
— the nexus of two two-way bike lanes
— a place where bikes are allowed but cars are not
— the end of a bike lane
— a business that offers discounts for BikeHouston members
Once you figure out where to find five places in Houston that meet these criteria, plan your route(s), grab a photo of yourself or your bike (or both!) at each location, and post them on social media with the hashtag #BikeHoustonDay — be sure to tag or mention @BikeHouston! Successfully complete this challenge by the end of the month, and you’ll get a BikeHouston bottle opener.
‘Run the Line’ half-marathon held in Texarkana
www.ktbs.com
TEXARKANA, Texas – The Texarkana Run the Line half-marathon is back after a cancellation last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
City managers from both sides of Texarkana fired the starting guns on Sunday at 7:30 a.m.
Nearly 500 runners signed up for this year’s event.
The race is unique because it allows runners to run in one race that goes through two states.
Proceeds from the event benefit Partnership for The Pathway, which builds safe walking and bicycling trails around Texarkana.
The non-profit was founded in 2008.
"We’re really pleased to say that we’ve been able to give over $250,000 to the two states during that period of time and 99 percent of that is because of this race. These runners help us raise this money," explained Julie-Ray Harrison, Partnership for the Pathway.
This year’s participants included residents from 12 different states and Germany.
There were also more than 70 local volunteers who helped staff the water stations and cheer on the runners.

Alright, finally met a load I cannot bike with the utility bike. 200 lbs of compost and soil on the back end just caused me to wheelie
— Robert Foster (@soc4austin) February 20, 2022
I think my radwagon could have done it since you can place the load lower on the running boards or if I had a front rack to balance it out pic.twitter.com/rKZefMyvh5
And we're racing! Jack Web & Quinton Moats in the road in their ~30 minute crit pic.twitter.com/LXGMcGpMeu
