Atascocita – Walden – FM 2100, Road Construction Narrows FM 1960
While I waited for the temperature to get to 60 degrees I watched 5 races on GCN+, 2 CX races and 3 stage races. I was pumped to ride outside today. Plenty of sunshine but a little lacking on some warmth. I dressed up with shorts, leg warmers, a long sleeve thermal jersey, windbreaker jacket, and full finger gloves. I felt chilly for the first 15 minutes but warmed up then.
Starting at 12:29 PM and finishing at 3:05 PM I set out on the Cervelo Caledonia riding my “Atascocita – Walden – FM 2100” route. Along the route I saw 2 other cyclists starting at Atascocita Shores Drive and FM 1960 as I start east over Lake Houston. The other cyclist came up behind me on Old Atascocita Road as I rode east to FM 2100. This is the first time riding this route since 7/27/2021 but the roads are part of another route that ride much more frequently going north FM 2100 instead of retracing the route back to FM 1960. Today I rode 33.73 miles. This the longest ride so far on the Cervelo but only by a 1/10th of a mile. These miles boosted February’s total road miles to 139.3 leaving 161 miles to reach my 300 mile goal. If the weather forecast holds I have a chance to reach the goal before the end of the month but it will be close.
Since my last ride February 11th the road construction at Atascocita Shores Drive and FM 1960 took a turn for the worse for biking. The video shows the barriers riding east to the causeway moving me to the left side of the right side barriers. My timing helped with traffic from the north on Atascocita Shores Drive kept the heavier traffic on east bound FM 1960 stopped as they turned to the east. This gave me time to ride to the end of the barriers before more cars arrived. I circled the area on the route map below. The west bound lanes changed too but not as drastically. When I reached the place where it narrowed the west bound traffic was only one car and I turned onto north Atascocita Shores Drive without any problem. Timing is everything at this intersection. Maybe the east bound construction will pour concrete soon allowing me to ride on the other side of the barriers. I may be riding to the north more until that happens.
Weather conditions: start 62 (humidity 31%, dew point 31), partly cloudy, wind N 0 mph; finish 65 (humidity 27%, dew point 30), a few clouds, wind E 8 mph. It may be a few degrees warmer tomorrow.
