A celebration on two wheels: The Texas Tour – Texas is big, your heart is bigger
By JUDY BLUESTEIN LEVIN | jhvonline.com
There is still time for cyclists to join the Texas Tour, riding across the Texas Hill Country, Feb. 28, benefitting Mesivta of Houston, a boy’s yeshiva high school. The tour will begin in College Station at the Hilton Conference Center, cross the prairies and lakes region of Central Texas and then finish at the edge of Texas’ beautiful Hill Country, along the bike paths of Austin’s metropolitan parks.
This is the second year of the ride, which was the brainchild of Mesivta board member, Andy Serotta. When Serotta, an avid cyclist, was in a bad biking accident a year-and-a-half ago, just before an August charity ride, he was determined to ride again. And, he didn’t …
Frisco releases new interactive ‘story map’ showcasing top hike-and-bike trails
By Matt Payne | communityimpact.com
Residents of Frisco and the general public have a new tool at their disposal to discover popular hike-and-bike trails in the city.
The new Frisco Trails Story Map was featured in a Dec. 30 installment of the city’s “Progress in Motion” video series. The map, which uses the city’s geographic information system technology, highlights the top 10 trails in Frisco. Specifics on several walking loops and a link to the city’s complete Hike and Bike Master Plan are also available.
Chris Shuma, a GIS analyst for the city, said the map came from collaboration between the IT, parks and recreation, and engineering departments. Their goal, he said, was to …
Bicycles and Bibles
By Scott McLendon | www.theexaminer.com
Her mother was taken by the COVID-19 pandemic just two months ago, but a Beaumont 5-year-old told her 23-year-old sister/soon-to-be adopted mom that Christmas 2021 was the best she’s ever had – all thanks to the Reaud Charitable Foundation’s annual Bicycles and Bibles event.
LeAnne was a year old when Wayne A. Reaud gave away 125 bikes at the Beaumont Civic Center ahead of Christmas 1999. As she grew, so too did Bicycles and Bibles’ giving, from 125 bikes and Bibles to 1,000 bikes, Bibles and other gifts each year. And when she became an impromptu mother, barely having the wherewithal to take on parental responsibilities accompanying a 5-year-old, let alone providing Christmas for the child, Bicycles and Bibles was there to fulfill its mission: showing compassion and spreading blessings.
Thanks to Bicycles and Bibles, LeAnne and her boyfriend were able to give the little girl a bike and Bible, along with a sackful of gifts. Without the philanthropic actions of families like the Reauds in Beaumont, some of …
Road to Hotter’N Hell
by Fun Bikin’ Enterprises | www.bikereg.com
Are You Ready for a BAG?
Sometimes you need a Big Awesome Goal to get motivated – and this series fits the bill. The Hotter’N Hell is loaded with challenges – Heat and Wind being the biggest challenges – then they add a few hills in just the right places – and 20+ miles of headwind in the last miles of the 100 mile route. Through the years I have noticed that the people who handle these challenges the best are the people who are out cycling in area rides leading up to the HHH. This little secret motivated me to put together a ride series that would help you get ready for the BIG ride in Wichita Falls.
The Road to Hotter’N Hell is a bundle of 4 small community bike rides that are in the final weeks leading up to the Hotter’N Hell. Each ride in our series features challenging routes and a variety of distances blended with Texas Hospitality. We’ve ridden these rides for decades and know that they are all committed to providing an excellent ride experience. Here’s how it works.
When you register for the RTHH you …
