Racking Up Local Legends After Fog Lifts
It took longer than I expected for the fog to lift delaying the start of today’s bike ride until 11:22 AM. I planned on riding my “Atascocita – FM 2100 – Walden” route but when I made the turn onto Fairlake Lane traffic was backed beyond the S-curve. When I reached FM 2100 I decided to ride north on FM 2100 to avoid the possible traffic on Fairlake Lane. This time I didn’t stay on the unopened south bound lanes all the way to the railroad crossing. At the opening across from Lake Houston United Methodist church I cut over to the sidewalk on the east side. This doesn’t go all the way to the railroad track but I moved to the main lane when the traffic was gone. This is better than trying to merge at the railroad crossing.
On the return west on FM 1960 from Huffman all of the traffic on Fairlake Lane was gone. I could’ve stuck with my planned route.
I finished the ride at 1:52 PM biking 32.21 miles. This sets up the potential for a 200 mile week with 190.82 miles so far. This was the 13th ride on the “Atascocita – Huffman – Walden” route in 2021.
Last night I cleaned the chain lube from the Canyon Endurace bike’s chain, cassette, rear derailleur, and crank because I was tired of the mess. I then waxed the chain to get back to a cleaner setup. I wanted to get it done before today’s bike ride. The Canyon was my bike for today’s ride.
There were other cyclists along the route. I didn’t expect to see any due to my late start though. The first group was on Kings River Drive near W. Lake Houston Parkway. The second group was headed west over Lake Houston while I rode east. I almost missed seeing them because I was keeping my head down and eyes on the road thinking.
When I started getting dressed for the ride the temperature was about 70 and it took me a minute or so to decide on what to wear. Finally I chose shorts, a long sleeve jersey, and a short sleeve jersey. It turned out to be a good choice. I was comfortable most of the ride. Weather conditions: start 75 (humidity 89%, dew point 71), mostly cloudy, wind N 0 mph; finish 78 (humidity 78%, dew point 71), mostly cloudy, wind variable 6 mph. The dew point being so close to the temperature caused the fog tp hang around so long. It was muggy.
Strava gave me 3 local legends. I thought I might get one of them.
