There is a fast group of Canuck cyclocrossers headed south this weekend for the Pan American Championships in Garland, Texas. 20 Canadians are on the start list across junior, under-23 and elite categories. They’ll be led by reigning u23 women’s Pan American champ Ruby West, who will make her elite debut, and Canadian elite men’s national champion Michael van den Ham.

Campus sees handful of bike, scooter thefts this semester

There has been a recent rise in the number of reported electric scooter thefts on campus, according to Rice University Police Department Chief of Police Clemente Rodriguez. There were a total of five reports of electric scooter thefts this semester, with four occurring in November.
Last year, during the same time period, there were no reported electric scooter thefts, although COVID-19 may have played a role, according to Rodriguez. He said that the increase in scooter thefts is likely due to the increase in popularity of electric scooters on campus.

A vehicle stuck a man riding a bicycle, according to first responders.
Laredo Fire Department crews responded to an autocyclist incident in the northbound lane of the 600 block of U.S. 83 at 9:48 p.m. Wednesday.
First responders said they encountered a man in his 20 with injuries. He was treated and taken to Laredo Medical Center in serious condition. The investigation is underway.
Happy Trails: Northeast Texas Trail receives $7.5 million

The Northeast Texas Trail, a 130-mile recreational trail from Farmersville to New Boston, just received a $7.5 million boost from federal funds to fully develop roughly 27 miles of trailway through parts of Clarksville, Red River County, Avery and in Bowie County from west of New Boston to DeKalb.
