Where Were Other Cyclists?
As I write this blog post I hear thunder outside. Glad I finished today’s bike ride before that started. My ride began at 8:39 AM and I was back home by 11:20 AM. My trusty Canyon Endurace bike carried me over the “Atascocita – Huffman – Walden” route for 32.45 miles. My Canyon now has 25,015 miles of biking. I made it a 200 mile week with 215.15 miles. This makes the 3rd week in a row of 200+ miles. October is at 712.48 miles. A lot of miles going here. I felt good pedaling the Canyon on the ride.
Sunrise at 7:28 AM slowed down my start but by the time I reached the east shore of Lake Houston no cyclists crossed my route. I wondered if I was too early, too late, or they rode somewhere else. When I got to FM 2100 my concern was relieved as a few cyclists appeared from the east side of FM 2100. You can see them in the video. I waited there for few minutes but couldn’t see any more in the distance. Later on the west side of the lake while I waited for the traffic light to change a group of 5 or 6 cyclists rode up on the right shoulder and turned onto Atascocita Shores Drive.
I dressed for cool temperatures of 70 degrees but the 99% humidity made for a muggy beginning and I thought the long sleeve jersey was overkill. But I survived as the humidity decreased to 79% at the finish. My jerseys were soaked from sweat. Weather overview: start 70 (humidity 99%, dew point 70), mostly cloudy, wind S 5 mph; finish 83 (humidity 79%, dew point 76), mostly cloudy, wind S 10 mph. The dew point accounted for the muggy feeling.
With the road construction on FM 2100 nearing completion the ride count on today’s route is going up. This marked the 11th time of biking it for 2021.
Checking Strava I still have the local legend for the Lake Houston Bridge – EB segment.
