One Critically Injured in Bicycle Crash on Independence Parkway at Sumac Lane in Frisco

Frisco, TX. (October 18, 2021)- A 14-year-old child was injured in an auto-pedestrian crash on October 15, 2021, in Frisco, Texas. The accident occurred just after 4:00 p.m. at the Independence Parkway and Sumac Lane intersection. Police reported that the victim was riding a bicycle northbound and was crossing the street when they collided with a Ford pickup truck. The bicyclist was transported to an area hospital with critical injuries. No further details have been provided at this time. The crash remains under investigation.

A public discussion of plans to build a concrete bike trail along the portion of the Lake Wichita Shore stretched to two-and-a half hours at Tuesday morning’s Wichita Falls City Council meeting and often grew contentious. At one point, Mayor Stephen Santellana threatened to stop the discussion.

Members of the Montrose Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone and the the engineering firm Gauge Engineering provided updates at an Oct. 18 meeting on several major mobility projects underway in the area, including a project that should start soon targeting Hawthorne and Woodhead streets in Montrose.
The project is being designed to convert the corridors into "neighborhood safe streets," a designation that officials said involves making streets safe for all modes of transportation, including cars, pedestrians, cyclists and wheelchair users.
