Lost Mic Cover, Great Weather, Biking Northwest
Checking my ride history I found that I almost always ride the “New Caney – Gene Campbell Road” route on Friday. Today was no exception. At 10:17 AM I pushed the start button on my Bolt computer as I rolled away on my Lynskey R300 bike. This marked the 6th time biking this route in 2021. Of these 6 today was the longest at 39.74 miles. The reason it is longer involves my looping back on the northbound US59/I-69 frontage road to search for the microphone cover that came off the GoPro Media Mod. It probably came off as I pulled the GoPro from my jersey pocket. I didn’t find it. I thought losing it the audio in the video would pickup more wind noise. But as I edited the video the wind wasn’t that noticeable. I’ll try to find a replacement.
Beautiful bike ride weather is hanging around. The light breeze keeps the headwind manageable. I built my overall average speed to 14.1 mph and held until I entered Kings Manor. I did not take my CamelBak using the Polar insulated water bottle. I stopped at the Circle K on FM 1314 at Sorters Road to refill it with ice and water. The water was still cold though the ice melted.
Weather overview: start 78 (71% humidity, 68 dew point), a few clouds, wind W 4 mph; finish 86 (50% humidity, 65 dew point), a few clouds, wind variable 5 mph.
On FM 1485 the shoulder was covered with gravel for about 1/2 mile. Not sure what happened. It wasn’t hard to ride on it thankfully. On Gene Campbell Blvd. approaching the new middle school where the road widens a shoulder exists thanks to repaving. Its about 2 feet wide but ends at the second side road. Road construction on what appears to be 2 lanes beside Gene Campbell Blvd. starts around New Caney Custom Cars to the Walmart warehouse truck entrance. The existing lanes are bumpy from all of the truck traffic.
I felt good during the ride until I returned to Kingwood when my legs felt heavy and my pedaling slowed.
