Good Legs, Great Weather, Other Cyclists Out Too
Beautiful biking weather continued with a clear blue sky, light wind, and moderate temperature. For the 6th time this year I rode on my “Atascocita South – Walden – Huffman” route covering 35.08 miles on my Canyon Endurace bike. The week total moved to 134.82 miles and October to 197.16 miles. 2021 YTD totals 7,806 miles. 2021 now leads 2020 YTD by 217 miles. The ride started at 10:08 AM and finished at 12:47 PM. I wasn’t expecting to see other cyclists but two crossed my path. One in Walden and the other at FM 2100 and Old Atascocita Road.
Of the 6 rides so far this year today was the best average speed and shortest distance. My legs felt good getting my overall average speed up to 14.4 mph for several miles as I returned to Kingwood. The light wind helped with that too.
I would say today’s weather was a perfect day for biking. Weather summary: start 78 (73% humidity, 69 dew point), fair, wind calm; finish 83 (48% humidity, 62 dew point), a few clouds, wind N 6 mph.
Parts of Old Atascocita Road need attention. Potholes are getting bigger and more frequent. Biking on the unopened southbound FM 2100 lanes is a stark contrast to Old Atascocita Road in smoothness. FM 2100 construction on the southbound lanes almost reaches the railroad tracks in Huffman with one lane paved and one waiting for concrete. I’m not sure how the railroad crossing will end up. There will be a sidewalk beside the southbound lanes. Sometimes it will border the road and other portions will be on the west side of the drainage ditch.
