Last Summer Bike Ride on Spring Creek Greenway
Continuing to mix up my routes I chose the Spring Creek Greenway for today’s bike ride. I didn’t ride the full length just to John Pundt Park for a total of 39.89 miles. I rode my Canyon Endurace bike after riding my Lynskey R300 bike the previous 4 times on the Greenway. I wanted to start earlier than I did leaving at 10:12 AM and finishing at 1:39 PM. The week now totals 83 miles and September 580.21 miles, 120 miles away from my goal for the month. YTD 2021 stands at 7,354 miles, 220 miles ahead of YTD 2020. I thought 2020 would close the gap some.
Fall arrives tomorrow but today was plenty warm before a front arrives late today. One reason I rode the greenway was the shade but all of the trees also block the wind at times. Riding to John Pundt Park generally was into a headwind and the return to the US59/I-69 trailhead had a tailwind some of the time. If I started earlier the temperature would’ve been a few degrees lower for few miles. Weather summary: start 86 (81% humidity, 80 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind W 6 mph; finish 91 (58% humidity, 74 dew point), partly cloudy, wind SW 6 mph.
The greenway was not very busy with a few cyclists. I saw most of them twice which made it seem busier. At John Pundt Park the number of cars in the parking lot was less than my last ride. I stopped there for about 15 minutes to rest, enjoy the shade and the little breeze, eat a snack before starting back to US59/I-69. I saw even fewer cyclists then.
On the way back I saw construction workers along Forest Cove Drive preparing to install a bridge for the San Jacinto Bayou Greenway and pour concrete for the greenway on both sides of the bridge.
