A Time To Remember On The Bike Ride
Two years ago today my wife passed away from breast cancer. Today’s bike ride took me to the cemetery to visit her grave. I started earlier than yesterday at 9:29 AM and finished at 12:06 PM. The route went north to Caney Creek where I made the u-turn to return to Kingwood. I call this the “Kingwood – FM 1485 – Kingwood” route. I rode my Canyon Endurace bike for 32.09 miles. I frequently ride this route with this the 14th time in 2021. Today’s distance was slightly longer than the average. The week now totals 173.67 miles, setting up a 200 mile week with tomorrow’s ride.
At the beginning of the ride the sky was mostly blue but clouds started to crowd out the blue with some gray ones. I hoped I could finish without getting rained on. After finishing I heard some distant thunder and weather radar showed some rain to the southwest. The clouds held the temperature down. Weather conditions: start 86 (80% humidity, 79 dew point), a few clouds, wind E 4 mph; finish 87 (60% humidity, 72 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind S 14 mph. I didn’t notice the increased wind too much except when I rode east on Azalea Blvd. to the frontage road. Watching the clouds as I ride to see what is ahead.
My legs had enough power to build up my average speed to 14.1 mph on the way back to Kingwood. The average speed dropped when I entered Kings Manor and Kingwood with stops and starts.
